Philosophy

I have been performing ever since I was 5 years old and have been teaching for over 20 years. It is my belief that singing and teaching singing is a most rewarding experience.

Teaching Method

I instruct students using a solid Bel Canto technique. This builds a foundation of good breath support, opens your resonators, improves your pitch work and helps you shape your phrases.

I teach singers from beginners to advanced levels and I try to tailor my approach to the needs and ambitions of the individual student. I won’t try to influence your musical style or taste, but rather work to improve your unique individual sound.

A good solid grounding in proper technique keeps your voice safe, for any vocal activity:

  • looking for classical solo training
  • developing your choral voice
  • working in Musical Theatre
  • just singing for your own enjoyment.
Proper technique frees you to develop greater expression, allowing you to communicate the message in the music. After all, that is what singing is all about!

Teaching singing is an ever evolving process of learning for both student and teacher. Every voice is unique and every student’s needs are different. I focus your lessons on what you want to achieve from your training. Come to your lesson with at least one personal goal, to make sure your time and money are well spent. Do you want to pass the RCM exams? Go on auditions for Music Theatre? Audition for post-secondary school programs? With a solid foundation of good vocal technique, you can go wherever you like.

Many people have asked me what music I like to listen to. My own musical tastes vary from madrigal to modern, from classical to rock. I believe that if there is meaning in a well crafted song, it is ageless.
