Biography

Soloist and Conductor

Let me introduce myself. I am David Bertram, a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto where I studied Vocal Performance Education. I won multiple scholarships in both the Faculties of Music and Education at U of T. As a performer I have sung Bass solos in Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Florence, London and Paris.

Locally, over the last few years my Bass solo performances have included the Messiah and various secular and sacred smaller works with professional and community choirs. I have directed and vocal directed musical theatre productions, conducted choirs for over ten years, toured choirs nationally and internationally, taught in the school system, adjudicated festivals and given vocal master classes.

Some of the shows that I have vocal directed and stage directed are: Bernardo Kids, Chagall, Into the Woods, Annie, Anne of Green Gables, The Music Man, Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan.

Currently, I teach voice privately in my studio and I am an active member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). When I need a break from this frantic life, my wife and I retreat quietly into our country garden, nicknamed The Fortress of Solitude.
